Commodities Market Piece 2500 A.D.

Terry Fugate-Wilcox, Commodities Market Piece 2500 A.D., 1974, silver and copper, 4½ x 1 x ½ in. (excluding base), edition of 275 (with base) and 25 (without base) (artworks © Terry Fugate-Wilcox)

Louis K. Meisel Gallery brokered a $13,750 commission for this limited-edition sculpture. Using a brazing furnace, Fugate-Wilcox produced 275 handheld Diffusion pieces that married slender bars of silver and copper for the Wall Street commodities trader Robert Mintz, who gave them to his colleagues and employees as Christmas gifts. Twenty-five additional pieces were retained for personal collections and for sale.
